The necks of paint tubes tend to weaken with use as most of you will have experienced. It can be very frustrating to get down to a painting session and battle to get started because you can’t get the lid off!
It usually happens long before the paint is finished so you end up having to cut the base to get at the paint. Little bits of paint dry in the cap and weld onto the lip of the tube. Force is then required to release the cap and this mangles the upper part. Many of y0u know this story and may have a good solution to the problem. Here is one!
When you buy new tubes, reinforce the top portion with masking tape. Remember to copy off any printed info and then wrap the tape around several times. Copy the info onto the top piece and then apply see through tape over it. This simple and quick procedure extends the working life of your paint tubes considerably so worth those few minutes of y0ur time before commencing with new paint.
